Robby Bowen is a post-genre drummer, percussionist, improviser, and sound artist based in Brooklyn. He is a co-founder of avant-rock band Boio (with Finnegan Shanahan), drummer of The Roofer’s Union, and percussionist of new music ensemble Echo Chamber. An active performer, he also frequently plays with projects like Contemporaneous, Abbi Press, and Goldfeather, among other freelance gigs in the NY area. As a contemporary percussionist, Robby has premiered works by Pascal Le Boeuf, Fjola Evans, Scott Wollschleger, Shawn Jaeger, and many more.  He has played at Carnegie Hall, Park Avenue Armory, Lincoln Center, National Sawdust, Elsewhere, and EMPAC.

Robby holds a Masters of Music from the Mannes conservatory at The New School and a B.M. from the University of Maryland, CP. Between semesters, he participated in fellowships at the Bang On A Can festival at Mass MoCA and the So Percussion Summer Institute. He also traveled to Ghana to study Ewe drumming and dance in the village of Kopeiya during the summer of 2012.
